Premium savoury snack brand Serious Pig has launched its crowdfunding campaign in order to fuel its growth following a successful year of sales. The London-based business, led by George Rice and backed by BrewDog co-founder James Watt, reported a revenue of £1.8m at the end of last year, up 73% from 2022. This growth was primarily driven by record sales through its direct-to-consumer (D2C) channel. The company plans to use the funding to further accelerate its growth, focusing particularly on its popular product, Snacking Cheese, an oven-baked pure cheese snack made in Italy. The campaign has already attracted over 400 investors and exceeded its initial target of £200k.
George Rice, co-founder of Serious Pig, expressed gratitude to the company's team, customers, and shareholders for their support in navigating the challenges of the past year.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and the decision to return to Crowdcube for this funding round. Rice mentioned that the company has successfully shifted its focus to the D2C channel, which has experienced a 239% increase in demand. He also hinted at future exciting developments, expected to be announced once finalized, that will contribute to a pivotal year for Serious Pig in 2024.
Having started over a decade ago with a premium "Pepperami" made from high-welfare British pork, Serious Pig has expanded its product range to include non-meat snacks like Snacking Cheese, Snacking Pickles, and Corn Scratchings. With over 3,300 shareholders and 29,000 Club Seriously members, Serious Pig has built a solid reputation and a loyal customer base. The brand supplies its premium snacks to various sectors, including hospitality, travel, grocery, speciality, gifting, and larger on-trade groups. In addition, customers can purchase the snacks directly from the Serious Pig website and Amazon.
