Butternut Box, a London-based fresh dog food company, recently announced that it has raised £280m in funding. The investment came from a new investor, General Atlantic, as well as an existing investor, L Catterton. The closing of the transaction is dependent on customary regulatory conditions and is projected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2023. With the infusion of funds, Butternut Box aims to expand its presence across Europe.
Under the leadership of Kevin Glynn and David Nolan, Butternut Box has become a leading brand in the fresh dog food market.
The company specializes in delivering freshly-prepared meals directly to customers. Their offerings include 12 different recipes for dogs, along with a variety of treats, chews, and supplements. Besides operating in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Belgium, Butternut Box recently expanded its reach into Poland following its acquisition of PsiBufet, a prominent fresh dog food company in Central and Eastern Europe.
Since its establishment in 2016, Butternut Box has experienced rapid growth and has raised over £100m in funding. Notable investors include L Catterton, White Star Capital, Five Seasons Ventures, Passion Capital, Literacy Capital, Claret Capital, and HSBC. As part of its expansion strategy, Butternut Box plans to develop a new European manufacturing facility. This facility will be the company's second of its kind, following the success of Rudie's Kitchen, a fully integrated manufacturing and fulfillment facility that opened in March 2021. Rudie's Kitchen has provided Butternut Box with complete visibility and control over its emissions production.
