Nuada, a Belfast, Northern Ireland-based carbon capture company, has recently secured an additional £3.4M in funding. The investment was made by BGF, which adds to the £4.5M round co-led by the Clean Growth Fund and nearly £3M of grant-funded projects from UKRI and the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). The company, led by Dr Conor Hamill and Dr Jose Casaban, specializes in building energy-efficient filtration machines that are capable of capturing CO2 from industrial off-gases. This technology enables emitters in hard-to-abate sectors to significantly reduce their carbon footprint while minimizing any negative impact on their finances.
Nuada's innovative technology has already gained traction in the market.
The company is currently collaborating with prominent cement manufacturers such as Buzzi Unicem, Heidelberg Materials, and Cementir Holding. Moreover, they have commenced the deployment of a plant at the Buzzi Unicem's Monselice plant in Northern Italy. The recent funding boost will be instrumental in supporting the construction of an additional pilot plant. This new facility will be located at an energy-from-waste facility in the UK and will serve as a showcase for the versatility and efficacy of Nuada's groundbreaking technology.
The investment from BGF signifies the growing recognition of Nuada's potential to revolutionize carbon capture solutions. With industries facing increasing pressure to reduce their carbon emissions, Nuada's technology provides a practical and economically viable solution. By capturing CO2 emissions and empowering businesses in hard-to-abate sectors to actively contribute to carbon neutrality, Nuada is making significant strides towards building a more sustainable future. The additional pilot plant will further demonstrate the company's commitment to advancing this technology and driving positive change.
