Puraffinity, a startup based in London, UK, has made remarkable strides in developing precision technologies aimed at combating a significant environmental challenge: the removal of toxic perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water sources. Recently, the company successfully raised £6.73 million in funding from BGF, which contributes to an impressive total of £16.93 million amassed during its Series A funding round. This milestone follows previous investments from notable entities such as Octopus Ventures, HG Ventures, Kindred Capital, and Verve Ventures, along with financial support from Universal Materials Incubator Co (UMI), a specialist fund in the materials science sector. These funds are earmarked for scaling production of Puraffinity's patented PFAS-capturing material, known as Puratech®, and expanding the company’s global footprint.
Founded in 2015 by Henrik Hagemann and Gabi Santosa, Puraffinity emerged from Imperial College and has since developed a unique solution to address the widespread PFAS issue.
Led by the newly appointed CEO Vincent Caillaud, the company’s technology not only successfully captures PFAS but also aims to eliminate a substance linked to various health problems, including cancer, from our precious water resources. Puratech is an innovative adsorbent media that boasts a customizable plug-in solution, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into existing water treatment systems. This flexibility enables users across the globe to tailor the technology to capture specific PFAS compounds, ensuring compliance with diverse regulatory standards in different markets.
Vincent Caillaud's appointment as CEO marks a crucial step towards enhancing Puraffinity's market access for its groundbreaking technology. With over 20 years of experience in the water sector, Mr. Caillaud previously held the position of CEO at Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions, a key player within the largest integrated water, energy, and waste management company in the world, Veolia. His leadership is expected to allow the company’s co-founder, Henrik Hagemann, to concentrate on advancing Puraffinity's technological edge in the role of Chief Product and Innovation Officer. Together, they aim to not only drive innovation but also to significantly contribute to a healthier environment by providing effective solutions to the PFAS dilemma, ensuring cleaner water for future generations.
