Signapse, a forward-thinking company based in Guildford, UK, has made significant strides in the realm of Generative AI Sign Language translation software. Recently, the company successfully closed a new seed funding round, raising an impressive £2 million. This funding consists of £1.5 million from various investors and an additional £500,000 from Innovate UK. The funding round was spearheaded by Soulmates Ventures and Deeptech Seed Fund, with substantial participation from other influential investors, including the Royal Association for Deaf People, Empirical Ventures, CEAS Investments, and The FSE Group.
The primary goal for this newly acquired funding is to enhance the company's capabilities and expand its influence in the video translation market, ultimately aiming to improve accessibility for the Deaf community on a global scale.
Signapse plans to develop advanced translation tools specifically for British Sign Language (BSL), incorporating artificial intelligence to translate English sentences into BSL seamlessly. Furthermore, the company is dedicated to enhancing the quality of its AI-generated sign language videos, ensuring that the content is as accurate and photo-realistic as possible for end-users.
Under the leadership of CEO Sally Chalk and CTO Ben Saunders, Signapse has garnered attention for its innovative approach to making communication more accessible. Over the past two years, the company has successfully employed Generative AI to produce an astonishing 5,000 BSL train announcements daily across the UK and has completed more than 4,000 manual BSL translations for clients engaged in website and video production. Notably, Signapse has also played a vital role in providing Deaf accessibility for transport companies, including prominent entities such as LNER Train Stations in the UK and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Ohio, USA, further solidifying its commitment to bridging communication gaps.
