Mariano Kostelec, the dynamic CEO of StudentFinance, recently announced a successful round of funding that has significantly boosted the company's financial foundation. Based in London, UK, StudentFinance operates as a career mobility platform that is tailored to assist individuals in enhancing their skills for in-demand jobs across various sectors, including technology, engineering, artificial intelligence, and the climate/green economy. The company raised an impressive €39 million in Series A funding, bringing its total amount raised to a substantial €44.7 million. The funding round was notably led by Iberis Capital, which provided equity, alongside SmartLenders Asset Management on the debt side. They received additional backing from prominent venture firms like Armilar Venture Partners, Mustard Seed Maze, Giant Ventures, and Seedcamp. The round also attracted notable angel investors such as Tom Blomfield and former UK culture minister Ed Vaizey.
Since its launch in 2020, led by the vision of Kostelec, StudentFinance has swiftly positioned itself as a key player in the educational financing landscape.
One of the company's main focuses is to develop advanced AI models that effectively map in-demand skills, ensuring that education providers are well-equipped to bridge the existing skills gap in the workforce. The company's unique approach not only offers flexible financing options to aspiring learners but also evaluates the quality of the educational programs it partners with. This model includes a diverse array of training programs, ranging from web development and data analytics with Ironhack to machine learning at AiCore, as well as cyber security training from Capslock, virtual reality courses from Mastered, and data science programs through Le Wagon.
Looking ahead, StudentFinance is gearing up for expansion beyond its existing markets. The company plans to utilize the recently acquired funds to solidify its presence in the UK, Germany, and Spain while also doubling the size of its team to meet increased demand. Over the past two years, the company has managed to facilitate more than €15 million worth of education financing and is ambitiously targeting €800 million in financing over the next three years, with an eye on upskilling over 200,000 individuals. This growth trajectory positions StudentFinance not just as a financial backing organization, but as a vital supporter of career development in an ever-evolving job market across several countries in Europe, including the UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Finland.
