TaskHer, a pioneering online booking platform designed specifically to assist homeowners in connecting with professional tradeswomen, has recently announced a successful fundraising round. The company has secured an impressive £200,000 in pre-seed funding from a group of impact investors based in the UK. Among the investors are notable organizations such as Bethnal Green Ventures, the Resolution Foundation, and Ufi Ventures. This financial backing will be instrumental in enhancing the platform's capabilities while simultaneously fostering a community of tradeswomen who rely on TaskHer to find secure and well-compensated job opportunities.
The innovative approach adopted by TaskHer allows homeowners not only to book and pay for tradeswomen online but also eliminates the often cumbersome process involved when using traditional directories.
In the past, customers traditionally had to reach out to tradespeople, discuss job details, and negotiate prices. However, TaskHer simplifies this process significantly for tradeswomen, as they face no pitching, costs, or administrative burdens; they can simply accept the jobs that align with their preferences. Launched in July 2022, TaskHer has begun by connecting clients with skilled electricians, plumbers, and heating engineers. Remarkably, only 3% of the professionals in these trades are female, and TaskHer is committed to transforming this statistic.
Co-Founder Anna Moynihan emphasized the vital economic opportunities that exist amidst the chronic skills shortage in skilled trades, stating, "The chronic skills shortage across all skilled trades presents a huge economic opportunity that is currently being missed due to a lack of visibility and outdated gender norms." As the company gears up for 2023, the focus will also include the development of a careers hub, utilizing content crafted by tradeswomen and apprentices to rebrand and demystify skilled manual trades. This initiative aims to inspire a new wave of women to consider careers in these essential sectors. Louise Marston from the Resolution Foundation expressed her support, noting the organization's eagerness to assist in bridging the gender gap in trades through training opportunities. With continued backing from investors like Bethnal Green Ventures and Ufi Ventures, TaskHer is poised to make a significant impact in encouraging female participation in skilled trades.
