New York and London – Limbic, a leading clinical mental health AI technology company, has announced the successful completion of a funding round totaling £11 million ($14 million). The funding was led by Khosla Ventures and included new investors Gaingels, an LGBTQIA+/Allies investment syndicate, and Illusian, the family office of Ilkka Paananen, co-founder of Supercell. The company's mental health AI technology has already been utilized by over 260,000 patients through the UK's National Health Service (NHS) Talking Therapies, resulting in increased access to mental health services, faster patient onboarding, reduced waiting times, and improved quality of care.
This new round of funding will facilitate the expansion of Limbic's clinical mental health AI technology to healthcare providers in the United States.
The company's AI solutions, originally created for the NHS, offer promising potential for U.S. health systems and payers. Recent studies, such as one published in Nature Medicine, have shown that Limbic's AI has led to a substantial increase in mental health referrals among ethnic and sexual minority groups, including non-binary individuals, Asians, and Black mental health patients. Additionally, Limbic's research indicated significant time savings, returning 50,000 clinician hours to the NHS.
Dr. Ross Harper, CEO and co-founder of Limbic, emphasized the vital role that AI can play in addressing the global shortage of mental healthcare providers. He stated, “Our recent funding reaffirms our commitment to scaling impactful, safe, and regulatory-compliant mental health AI solutions. Our AI was developed to enhance the capabilities of human clinicians, amplify their expertise, and extend high-quality care to meet everyone's needs." Investors like Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures and Lorenzo Thione of Gaingels are optimistic about the potential impact of Limbic's AI technology on improving mental healthcare accessibility for all individuals, regardless of background or socioeconomic status.
