London startup BoxxDocks, founded by Amarjit Pall and Alessandro Attanzio, has secured £250,000 in pre-seed funding from the British Design Fund. BoxxDocks offers collapsible smart logistics boxes that can reduce empty space being shipped between warehouses and final delivery locations. The boxes, manufactured in the UK, are 100% recyclable and incorporate tracking IoT technology to provide real-time location information for logistics operators. The founders came up with the idea after realising the outdated design of standard heavy-duty boxes, and the carbon-heavy production process involved. The funding will support the launch of BoxxDocks' box-as-a-service offering and further development of the product line. Other investors in the round include global investment firm Techstars.
Commenting on the investment, Amarjit Pall, cofounder of BoxxDocks, said: "Our smart, collapsible boxes fold from full to half sizes enabling our customers to reduce wasted shipping space and increasing the number of boxes that can be shipped within one transport.
They are optimised to the needs of logistic companies, making space usage more efficient, saving them money, and reducing CO2 emission per transport."
BoxxDocks aims to build a global network of data-driven logistics boxes to unlock cost savings and CO2 reductions. The company is supported by University College London (UCL) and plans to close its funding round soon.
The British Design Fund, which closed its fifth fund in May 2023, provides capital investment and expert mentoring to UK-based product design and manufacturing companies. Damon Bonser, CEO of the British Design Fund, commented that BoxxDocks' mission aligns with the fund's goal to support purpose-led British startups with scalability potential.
