With over 30 million absence days in the UK workforce attributed to musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, Vitrue Health, a digital health platform for workplaces, recently secured an additional $4m (£3.2m) in funding. This latest round brings their total funding to $7m (£5.56m) and is aimed at improving how employers assess, prevent, and treat MSK conditions within the workplace. Leading the funding round are MMC Ventures and Hambro Perks, with participation from Simplyhealth Ventures, Crista Galli Ventures, and Chris Bruce.
MSK conditions, which commonly present as back and neck pain, affect an estimated 1.
.7 billion people globally. These conditions range from short-term muscle strains to chronic disorders like rheumatoid arthritis. MSK disorders are responsible for 24% of all work-related ill health issues and result in the loss of 30 million work days per year for British employers. Since its inception in 2018, Vitrue Health has partnered with companies such as Bupa, the NHS, Hastings Direct, and Campari in 30 countries to address MSK issues proactively.
Vitrue Health was co-founded by Shane Lowe, whose background includes a PhD in advanced motion capture technology, and Alexandra Haslehurst, who holds a masters degree in biomechanics from Cambridge University. The platform utilizes computer vision and AI to analyze the posture and ergonomics of workers in various settings and provides personalized programs to enhance equipment use, behavior, risk prevention, injury management, and even psychology. The recent investment will fuel the company's team expansion, support its growth in the US and European markets, and drive research into new assessment methods and clinical applications.
