Furbnow, a Birmingham, UK-based climate-tech startup, recently secured £950K in Pre-Seed funding in a round led by SFC Capital. Other participants include Norrsken Accelerator, Daniel Luhde-Thompson, InnovateUK, and the Nesta/Founders Factory Mission Studio. The company's primary goal is to expand its supplier network in order to assist customers with insulation, ventilation, new energy generation, and low-carbon heating installations in their homes. Founders Becky Lane (CEO) and Laurence Watson established Furbnow to help homeowners devise a comprehensive home energy improvement plan. The startup also plans to collaborate with green finance providers and insurers to offer an all-encompassing service. Furbnow is currently developing innovative planning methods to provide affordable options for the domestic market, utilizing building information and energy performance data. A pilot program with Birmingham City Council is slated for early 2024 as part of the local authority's initiative to decarbonize homes and achieve their 2030 Net Zero target.
Furbnow's CEO, Becky Lane, expressed her excitement about the recent funding, stating that everyone deserves a warm and comfortable home without facing excessive bills. Currently, around 11.7 million homes in the UK have an energy efficiency rating of "D" or lower. Recognizing that energy efficiency often takes a backseat to flashy low-carbon technologies, Lane emphasized the significance of improving the basic comfort and functionality of homes. Furbnow aims to become a one-stop platform for homeowners seeking guidance and assistance in planning and implementing low-carbon technologies and energy efficiency measures for their homes. By prioritizing comfort and practicality, the startup hopes to bridge the gap between sustainable living and optimal living conditions.
In order to achieve its mission, Furbnow will work closely with homeowners to develop personalized home energy plans that cater to their unique needs.
Additionally, the startup will offer various packages priced to accommodate different budgets. By leveraging cutting-edge planning techniques and utilizing energy performance data, Furbnow aims to deliver cost-effective solutions for the domestic market. The company is equally focused on forming partnerships with finance providers and insurers to ensure a seamless end-to-end service for its customers. The upcoming pilot program with Birmingham City Council is a significant milestone in Furbnow's journey, as it aligns with the council's ambitious plan to decarbonize homes and create a sustainable future for the city.
