In a significant stride toward harnessing the power of unstructured data, Instill AI, a burgeoning startup located in London, UK, has successfully secured $3.6 million in a seed funding round. This round is spearheaded by the renowned venture capital firm RTP Global, alongside meaningful contributions from Lunar Ventures and Hive Ventures. Notable angel investors, including Charles Songhurst, a former corporate strategy executive at Microsoft, Demetrios Kellari, who serves as the Head of Systems and Technology Integration at Cavnue, and Mehdi Ghissassi, Director of Product within Google’s AI/ML Research organization, also played pivotal roles in this funding initiative. The investment is poised to bolster the company's ongoing mission of enabling organizations to extract hidden value from unstructured data, thereby democratizing access to AI technologies across various industries.
Despite the rapid advancements in deep learning, there remains a palpable gap in the data tooling landscape, particularly when it comes to extracting insights from unstructured data such as images, videos, audio, and text.
Current methodologies for deploying AI solutions often require gigantic financial investments and extensive teams, effectively limiting these capabilities to larger enterprises with vast resources. Recognizing this pressing issue, Instill AI has developed an open-source project known as the Versatile Data Pipeline (VDP), specifically designed to facilitate the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) process for unstructured data. This innovative tool aims to streamline operations for Data and AI teams, enabling them to derive richer insights and create AI applications more efficiently, all while eliminating silos that often result in inefficiencies.
Ping-Lin Chang, the CEO and Co-founder of Instill AI, expressed an unwavering commitment to making AI more accessible, emphasizing that the insights embedded within unstructured data can only be unlocked through user-friendly technologies. To further this ambition, the company is ramping up its hiring efforts with the aim of doubling its workforce by the end of 2023. Gareth Jefferies, a partner at RTP Global, praised the team’s vision and execution, stating that they are keen to support Instill AI as it embarks on this transformational journey. Meanwhile, Yan Lee, founder and managing partner at Hive Ventures, is also optimistic about collaborating with RTP Global and Lunar VC to enhance Instill AI’s offerings within the community. As the company prepares to unveil a fully managed cloud service version of VDP later this year, the excitement surrounding Instill AI is palpable, with early access available for interested users.
