Kunda Kids, based in London, UK, has recently made headlines by securing an impressive $700K in Pre-Seed funding, a significant milestone for the burgeoning children's media publisher and creative studio. This funding round was predominantly led by Zrosk Investment Management, with substantial contributions from notable firms such as Voltron Capital, Argentil Capital, HoaQ, and Kaleo Ventures. Additionally, a cohort of angel investors, including Abi Ajayi, Adetayo Bamiduro of MAX, and Benjamin Fernandes, the CEO of Nala Money, participated in this financial endeavor. Founded in 2020 by the husband-and-wife duo Oladele and Louisa Olafuyi, Kunda Kids is on a mission to enrich children's publishing with elements of African culture, history, and language learning.
Their approach focuses not only on educational content but also on instilling essential values, such as self-confidence, teamwork, and kindness, through engaging storytelling. One of their flagship projects, Kunda & Friends, is a dynamic music-led 3D animation set against the backdrop of an African landscape. This captivating series follows the adventures of Kunda, a four-year-old boy of mixed African heritage, along with his diverse friends, including Sana, who has mixed African and Indian roots, and Fela, a Nigerian boy, as well as animated companions like Leo the lion and Ella the elephant.
The Kunda & Friends series is designed to resonate with both children and their parents, as it combines entertainment with valuable life lessons rooted in friendship. The catchy soundtrack draws upon rich African cultural influences, enhancing the viewing experience and providing an educational framework for parents and educators alike. The excitement is building, as the first four episodes of Kunda & Friends are set to premiere on Monday, May 29th, with plans for subsequent episodes to follow in the weeks to come. To date, Kunda Kids has successfully sold over 25,000 books and their app has gained remarkable traction, being downloaded in over 130 countries around the world. This growth signals not only a robust demand for diverse children’s content but also highlights the impact that Kunda Kids is striving to achieve in the realm of children’s education and entertainment.
