Matter Secures $10 Million in Funding to Combat Microplastic Pollution
Matter, a Bristol, England, UK-based microplastic technology and innovation company, has recently secured $10 million in Series A funding. The funding round was led by S2G Ventures and SOUNDWaves, with additional investment from Regeneration.VC and Katapult Ocean. Kate Danaher of S2G Ventures and Katherine Keating of SOUNDWaves will both join Matter's expanded Board of Directors. The company plans to use the funds to scale its microplastic filtration technology and accelerate its roadmap of solutions for commercial and industrial applications.
Founded in 2018 by Adam Root, Matter is dedicated to developing technology solutions for capturing, harvesting, and recycling microplastics.
Their focus is on tackling the main sources of microplastic pollution in wastewater, particularly within the textile lifecycle. The company is also committed to supporting education and legislation efforts to make a global impact. In line with this, Matter is collaborating with domestic and commercial laundry appliance manufacturers to integrate its technology into their products before the upcoming French legislation requiring microfibre filters in new washing machines by January 2025. Furthermore, the company is partnering with textile brands and manufacturers to address and prevent microfibre fragmentation pollution in the textile manufacturing process.
