OQC Raises $100 Million to Expand Quantum Computing Access
OQC, a Reading, UK-based quantum compute-as-a-service (QCaaS) company, recently announced that it has successfully raised $100 million in funding. The round was led by SBI Investment, a prominent investment firm, with participation from Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE), University of Tokyo Edge Capital (UTEC), Lansdowne Partners, and OTIF, managed by Oxford Investment Consultants (OIC). The company intends to utilize these funds to further enhance its research and development sector, while also focusing on making quantum technology accessible to businesses globally.
Under the leadership of CEO Ilana Wisby, OQC has emerged as a leading quantum computing company, offering an enterprise-ready quantum computing platform called OQC Toshiko.
This groundbreaking platform has been deployed to commercial data centers, enabling businesses to leverage the power of quantum technology from anywhere in the world, securely and effortlessly. This is particularly beneficial for companies working with sensitive data, such as those in the financial services, pharmaceuticals, energy, defense, and government sectors. Currently in private preview, OQC Toshiko will soon be available on public cloud and data center fabric. The company has already expanded its operations to colocation data centers in the UK, Japan, and Spain.
Prior to this successful funding round, OQC had previously raised £41 million, including the largest Series A in the UK's quantum computing sector at that time. As of 2023, OQC boasts a team of over 100 experts from around the world, attracting top talent to support its mission of revolutionizing quantum technology.
