Value.Space Secures €2.1 Million for Satellite Technology
Value.Space, a pioneering startup focused on insurance risk profiling through satellite-based technology, has successfully closed an oversubscribed investment round, raising €2.1 million. This funding round has attracted significant attention, backed by several venture capital funds known for their involvement with tech unicorns like Bolt, Wolt, and Veriff. The growth of Value.Space is particularly noteworthy given the increasing urgency of monitoring aging infrastructure, especially since many of the world’s largest infrastructure projects are now over 50 years old. These aging structures require close monitoring for any anomalies that could indicate critical risks, a task made even more complex by the additional stress factors brought about by climate change.
The UK-based startup has developed advanced monitoring technology that leverages satellite-gathered data to detect millimeter-scale anomalies in large infrastructure assets.
This capability is crucial for assessing the structural integrity of critical objects such as dams, mines, and large-scale commercial properties. Value.Space's unique risk profiling technology serves as a loss prevention and pricing tool for the insurance industry, enabling faster and more cost-effective assessments compared to traditional land-based methods. The company initially kicked off this innovative development at Lloyd’s Lab, the renowned innovation hub associated with the global insurance marketplace.
With the recently completed funding, Value.Space is poised for rapid growth. Reijo Pold, the founder and Chief Strategy Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the strong support from investors, emphasizing the significant protection gap highlighted by Swiss Re's estimates of economic losses caused by natural catastrophes in 2021. Pold stated, "We are now able to provide a new and scalable way to make risks and opportunities quantifiable that the insurance market needs to manage and absorb future risks." Furthermore, Gerri Kodres, Founding Partner of Specialist VC, remarked on the groundbreaking potential of Value.Space's satellite-based monitoring approach. The company has already generated over 3,500 risk profiles for large infrastructure objects across 70 countries, saving clients millions of euros while also contributing to significant reductions in CO2 emissions.
