Greenr.co.uk (will become Canopey.com soon) is a Norwich-based startup on a mission to make "sustainable shopping" the new norm.
The startup brings together ethical brands in its marketplace. And uses its impact calculator to show carbon emissions, water waste and plastic waste that can be saved when compared to a similar product on the market.
This makes it a lot easier for climate-conscious buyers to purchase products with a purpose.
This exciting project is led by its 3 passionate co-founders:
Thomas sent startupmag a quick video explaining the importance of Canopey.
You'll find the transcript below:
"Hi, startupmag, this is Thomas Panton, founder of greenr.co.uk, soon to be canopey.com.
Fast fashion retailers and cheap plastic products are wrecking our planet and choking our waterways. People want to shop better with a third feeling buyer's remorse, but still nearly 50%. Find it too complicated to shop sustainably.
Canopey is the home for buying better. We're on a mission to make shopping sustainably easier for everyone so you can buy without worrying about your impact on planet and people. We're all about making sustainability accessible, transparent, and relatable. We verify sustainable products and bring them together in one place to save you time and energy.
Researching our canopey calculator gives you stats showing the carbon emissions, water waste, and plastic waste you save when shopping. Sustain. And we're a sustainable brand for a mainstream audience. We're setting out to appeal to more than just the Eco Warrior, and we picked Canopey as a name because it's all about bringing everything under one roof.
It's about providing an inclusive home for everyone, whether you're an eco warrior or just starting to think about what to buy better."
Greenr is such a great pre-seed funding story bringing environmentally friendly investors together.
The accelerator Virgin Startup was among their first supporters. Lead investment came from University of East Anglia’s Enterprise Fund, the largest university fund, and the Capital Pilot Boost Fund, one of the UK’s most prolific early stage funds.
Several investors from the angel network Anglia Capital Group also invested, and Greenr finished the round with a crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube, gaining the backing of several hundred investors bringing the total to more than 350.
The Anglia Capital Group's (ACG) network is run by Hannah Smith and has over 90 angel investors across Norfolk and Suffolk. The angel network has invested £8 million into innovative businesses across the region.
