Edinburgh-based company Rhizocore Technologies has raised £3.5M in funding to further their mission of producing special fungi to ensure the survival and growth of trees. The funding round was led by ReGen Ventures, Collaborative Fund, and Grok Ventures. With this investment, Rhizocore plans to expand its 10-person team and develop the infrastructure necessary to rapidly scale their solutions.
Rhizocore was founded in 2021 by CEO Toby Parkes and Chief Mycologist David Satori.
The company specializes in developing technologies to grow symbiotic fungi that enhance the growth, resilience, and carbon sequestration potential of newly planted forests and woodlands. Their fungal pellet acts as a vital underground nutrient exchange between trees and fungi, known as the wood-wide web.
Over the next two and a half years, Rhizocore aims to scale its operations with the goal of planting up to 5 million trees in 2025 alone, each with accompanying fungal pellets to ensure their survival. With the renewed focus on climate change and reforestation efforts, Rhizocore's unique technology and approach have the potential to make a significant impact on the global environment.
