Metal Morph’s approach aims to recover spent coagulants so they can be reused in the same process, reducing reliance on external suppliers while lowering operating costs and emissions.
The company already reports partnerships with six UK water utilities that together cover 56% of the UK water market, and it has been awarded a £100,000 grant from Ofwat with a further £450,000 available on milestone completion. Those ties give Metal Morph routes for real-world testing and potential rapid uptake if pilots scale.
Metal Morph provides an infrastructure-as-a-service solution that extracts aluminium- and iron-based treatment chemicals from wastewater streams. According to the company, more than 50 live tests across three drinking water treatment plants show 90 percent recovery of spent treatment chemicals at 95 percent purity. Early operational metrics cited include a 26 percent reduction in coagulation-related operational costs and an 89 percent reduction in emissions associated with coagulant procurement.
The recovered chemicals are intended to be returned to the same treatment processes, creating a circular loop rather than sending materials to sewer, landfill or landspread. Metal Morph says its multidisciplinary team of nine brings experience from Arup, Bloomberg, British Water, Deep Science Ventures, Imperial and Stanford. The business was incorporated in 2025 and is preparing industry pilots funded by this round and the Ofwat grant.
The round was co-led by Sustainable Ventures and Green Angel Ventures, with participation from Aqcelerator and Found Capital.
