Thymia, a London-based healthtech startup, recently secured $2.7M in Seed funding, bringing its total funding amount to $3.5M. The funding round was led by Kodori Ventures and saw participation from new and existing investors, including Entrepreneur First, Syndicate Room's Access, Calm/Storm, and Form Ventures. Notable angel investors, such as Amanda M Cardinale and Nadav Rosenberg, also contributed to the round. Thymia plans to utilize the funds to enhance the reach and capabilities of its gamified AI tools.
Co-founded in 2020 by Gabrielle Powell, Emilia Molimpakis, and Stefano Goria, Thymia specializes in mental healthtech solutions.
The startup's platform employs video game-inspired AI technology to diagnose and track mental health conditions. Unlike traditional subjective questionnaires, Thymia's approach involves patients playing specially-designed video games that utilize neuropsychology, linguistics, and machine learning. These games prompt patients to verbally describe animated scenes and remember moving objects. As users engage with the games, the software anonymously analyzes three key data streams: voice (acoustic and linguistic cues), video (micro-expressions, movement, and eye-gaze), and behavioral measures (tapping, reaction times, and error rates). By identifying data patterns indicative of mental health symptoms, Thymia's software helps clinicians expedite and enhance the diagnostic process.
Thymia's innovative technology has facilitated its expansion into various regions. The platform is now utilized in the UK, U.S., Spain, Brazil, Indonesia, and Nigeria, with plans to enter three more countries later this year. The startup has formed collaborations with esteemed academic institutions, including King's College London, University College London, and Oxford University. Additionally, Thymia has been selected as one of twelve startups to participate in AWS's Healthcare Accelerator, further validating the potential impact of its gamified AI tools in the mental health sector.
