Funding Boost for Green Jobs Training Startup
In a significant move towards addressing the urgent need for green jobs, greenworkx, a promising edtech start-up based in London, has announced the completion of a £600k pre-seed funding round. This funding, led by Mangrove Capital Partners with participation from Ada Ventures, aims to develop innovative training and matching technology that will assist people in transitioning into lucrative green jobs without the burden of degree debt. The global demand for skilled workers in net-zero industries has never been more pressing, particularly in the UK, where an estimated 500,000 additional professionals are needed to address the energy inefficiencies present in 28 million homes.
Founded by Richard Ng, a former Multiverse executive, and Mat Ilic, who previously served as an adviser at 10 Downing Street, greenworkx combines nearly 25 years of experience in education, technology, and governance. Their ambitious goal is to facilitate the entry of 10 million people into green jobs over the next decade. Mat Ilic, co-founder and CEO of greenworkx, pointed out two primary challenges: a lack of awareness about well-paying, meaningful jobs in the green sector and the incapacity of existing training systems to deliver the necessary skills at the required scale.
To overcome these challenges, greenworkx is adopting a revolutionary approach that includes utilizing an engaging app designed for a diverse audience to make learning more accessible and interactive. By incorporating elements of educational neuroscience and artificial intelligence, greenworkx aims to effectively reskill the workforce to meet industry demands.
