PlannerPal, a fintech startup, has raised £4.3m in a seed funding round to scale its client‑data and AI workflow for financial advice and wealth management firms. The cash will be used to grow engineering and product teams, accelerate customer rollout and develop the startup’s client intelligence capabilities — a response to advisers seeking AI that works inside their existing systems rather than alongside them.
Financial advice firms hold large amounts of client information that is often fragmented across conversations, documents and multiple systems. PlannerPal’s proposition is to reduce manual administration and turn that dispersed material into higher‑quality, usable client data — a shift advisers say can improve service personalisation while keeping advisers in control of changes and data security.
Adoption metrics underline the market interest. PlannerPal is used by more than 250 UK advice firms, including about 20% of the country’s top 20 wealth managers, and supports firms responsible for roughly £150bn of client assets. Those figures suggest demand for integrated AI workflows in the UK advice market, where firms are moving beyond standalone tools toward technology that plugs into core systems.
PlannerPal automates capture of client meetings, generates documentation and updates the systems advisers use day to day. The product links information from client conversations, documents and core platforms so firms can reuse richer client records across compliance, planning and service workflows.
The startup has embedded its workflow into established vendor stacks. It is the only AI partner in the Iress Partnership and is built into Xplan workflow, allowing advisers to launch PlannerPal from Xplan via single sign‑on. It also integrates with Intelliflo, Curo, Plannr, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and SharePoint. Beyond wealth management, PlannerPal has started work in the UK mortgage market and recently added Charles Cameron, one of the UK’s largest independent mortgage brokers, as a client.
The £4.3m seed round was led by Mercia Ventures. Existing investor Ada Ventures, which led PlannerPal’s pre‑seed in February 2024, also participated alongside a group of strategic fintech investors and angel backers.
In the announcement, Adam Lovell, Investment Director at Mercia Ventures, said:
Advice firms have spent the last two years experimenting with AI. Those now choosing a long‑term AI partner want an experienced and trusted team, backed by technology that works with their existing systems and client data, not another standalone tool. We're delighted to back PlannerPal as they build the client intelligence layer for UK financial advice. PlannerPal clients regularly refer to them as ‘partners’; sharing their vision but ultimately delivering on promises, taking away key pain points at a pace of growth aligned with each firm’s business strategy. This level of trust that PlannerPal can deliver, has accelerated an appetite to turn fragmented information into higher‑quality client data, meaning that advice firms will soon be able to understand and serve their clients in ways that simply weren't possible before.
If you're researching potential backers in this space:
In the announcement, Mark Whitcroft, Co‑founder & CEO at PlannerPal, said:
Financial advice firms are sitting on an extraordinary amount of valuable client information, but much of it is fragmented across conversations, documents and different systems. The first opportunity for AI was obvious: remove the manual work of capturing it. The bigger opportunity is making the client data firms already hold work better. We don't believe the answer is another disconnected AI tool sitting outside the core systems of the business. A firm’s AI and client data strategy need to work together. We've been deliberately focused on the UK market and this funding lets us accelerate the pace of growth and deliver the same opportunity to the mortgage market.
PlannerPal’s raise highlights a practical strand of fintech investment in the UK: backing companies that embed AI into existing workflows rather than offering point solutions. For advisers, the attraction is operational — better client data and fewer manual tasks — but the longer‑term question is how those data improvements translate into client outcomes and compliance resilience.
The deal also signals investor appetite for startups that can integrate with major vendor ecosystems such as Iress and Intelliflo. As the UK advice and mortgage markets increasingly test AI, vendors that combine data engineering, security and workflow integration are likely to draw further interest from fintech investors and incumbents across Europe.
