Graide, a Birmingham, UK-based AI and machine learning platform for teachers, recently secured £1.6M in funding, bringing their total amount to £2.5M. The funding round included participation from XTX Ventures, as well as existing investors Mercia Ventures, the MEIF Proof of Concept & Early Stage Fund, SFC Capital, and private investors. With this new capital infusion, the company plans to expand within the UK market and explore opportunities in the US and Canada.
Founded by Robert Stanyon, Manjinder Kainth, and George Bartlett, Graide leverages assistive AI and machine learning technologies to assist teachers in grading essays and providing feedback to students.
While initially focusing on marking maths, physics, and chemistry papers, the platform has now expanded to cover essays and reports across all subjects. Additionally, Graide is actively working on detecting instances where students may be using AI to write their essays, ensuring academic integrity.
The platform has gained traction among universities such as Birmingham, Durham, Huddersfield, and Sussex, as well as learning platforms and exam boards. Graide has also successfully conducted pilot projects in the US. Currently headquartered in Wolverhampton, the company employs eight staff members. CEO Manjinder Kainth emphasized the importance of transparent, explainable AI in today's educational landscape and expressed enthusiasm about XTX Ventures' expertise in the field, as they join as a new investor in this funding round.
