Hometree, a pioneering residential energy services challenger brand based in London, UK, has recently secured a significant $46 million in Series B funding. This impressive funding round was spearheaded by 2150 and Energy Impact Partners, with additional support coming from Legal & General Capital. Notably, the round also saw participation from returning investors such as Inven Capital, an energy fund supported by the Czech Utility CEZ Group, as well as Oxford Capital and FJ Labs. This time, the funding pool was further diversified with the inclusion of impact fund AENU and angel investor Frank Strauss, a distinguished former board member of Deutsche Bank and CEO of Deutsche Postbank AG. Hometree’s fresh influx of capital will primarily be allocated towards expanding its operations and broadening its business reach, positioning the company for future growth.
Under the leadership of Founder and CEO Simon Phelan, Hometree operates primarily in the home emergency insurance and home cover market, providing essential services that ensure homeowners can have smooth-running homes.
Their focus extends beyond emergency repairs in heating, plumbing, and electrical services. The company is now committed to enhancing the lifecycle of sustainable homeownership by facilitating the installation, management, and financing of renewable energy solutions. This allows homeowners to transition towards operating their homes in a carbon-neutral manner, addressing both environmental concerns and energy efficiency.
In an exciting development, Hometree has also broadened its portfolio by acquiring BeWarm, an innovative green home improvement financing platform that provides homeowners with access to green loans, leases, and mortgage advances. BeWarm was co-founded in 2018 by Rory Duff, the former Strategy Director at HomeServe and CFO of renewable financing company EcoVision, alongside Matthew Boyes, known for founding StreetLife, a UK social network that was acquired by NextDoor in 2017. BeWarm pioneers a point-of-sale financing approach, partnering with local installers to offer homeowners a variety of financing options for green improvements. These options include Heat Lease Plans, allowing for the installation of energy-efficient boilers or heat pumps with no upfront payments, as well as mortgage further advances and Green Home Loans aimed at promoting a more sustainable living environment.
