Kuano Raises £1.8M Seed Funding for Quantum-Based Drug Discovery
Kuano, a drug discovery company combining quantum mechanics with AI to design the next generation of medicines, has announced the close of its £1.8M seed funding round. The round was led by Mercia Ventures and included ACF Investors, Ascension Ventures, o2h Ventures, Meltwind Advisory LLP, and other Angel investors. The funds raised will support the further growth and validation of Kuano’s quantum simulation platform for enzyme targeted drug discovery. This platform allows scientists to view and model enzymes in their dynamic state, enabling more effective drug design. Kuano's approach has already been validated in three separate disease areas.
Enzymes play a crucial role in many human diseases, making them a key target in the drug market.
However, scientists have previously only been able to study enzymes in their resting state, limiting their understanding of their dynamic states. By combining quantum simulation with AI tools, Kuano's platform enables scientists to identify the best structures with which to target enzymes for more precise and potent drug design. In addition to further laboratory work, the funding will be used to strengthen the company's management team and prepare for scaling.
Kuano was co-founded in 2020 by four experts: Drs Vid Stojevic, David Wright, Parminder Ruprah, and Jarryl D'Oyley. The latest seed funding brings the total investment raised by Kuano to £2.8M. The company's quantum simulation platform has attracted the attention of leading pharmaceutical companies and addresses a vast untapped market. The funding will enable Kuano to move to the next stage of its development.
